banquet seating

DH had the brilliant idea (or did I send him subliminal messages first and now he thinks its his idea?) to have some built in banquet seating built for our breakfast area...our plan is to have a little two part seat made for right under each window, open up the table with at least one of the extra leaves (is that the right word?) we have for the table, and viola seating for at least five.

The black rug will go (Holly is sure to be happy about this :) I'm making drapes with the hip chocolate floral fabric as we speak and these will hang over the two long windows flanking the french doors in the back SOOOOOO I'm planning to buy some matchstick blinds for these two windows and hang some pelmets I've already made (again with the hip floral). I'll probably use these old roman shades and turn them into couch pillows if I can.

In the meantime I've been trolling pinterest for ideas for the banquet...

finally!

Made my list and I'm checking it twice...checking it off that is. I feel like I'm finally finally getting things DONE around here and man it feels great. Here's the table that the boys have eaten at since the twins were 2...

I still have to paint the chairs but at least we're on our way. My DH took the boys to the park one afternoon so that I could finish painting the chess board on top (still have detail work to do). They came home just as I was finishing and one of the twins (the one who is less apt to give compliments) said "Oh Mom, its the most beautiful thing ever! Thank you so much for doing this." Stuff like that makes my heart GROOOWWWW. Its the little things people. And yes they play chess. What can I say, they're nerds like their parents.

a big one done

How long does it take to decide on paint colors
for the downstairs living areas
that we use on a daily basis?
Uh, apparently three and a half years.
 Sweet relief at last...
gone is the builder-chosen
"manchester tan"
color that was everywhere.

Say hello to "SW Celery" in the kitchen...
it makes the granite look better
(and boy was that a hard job to do)
since there's a lot of green undertones to it.
I like the way it works with the other green accents
I already have in there like the curtains
and the "I can not do it all" print from JDC...

The kitchen opens up to the breakfast and family area...
two places we hang out in basically during waking hours.
I LOVE the new color in here...
very warm and now that I think about it
it's the exact color that I like my coffee to be...
could that be why I like it so much?
Its SW Ecru.

Look at the way it pops against the hip chocolate floral fabric.
LOVE.

The back of the bookshelves is one shade darker than SW Celery...
Its called "Shagreen" by SW.
 LOVES.

Still playing with the furniture placement.
I think the PB sleeper sofa is on its way out via craigslist...
another design dilemma to debate.
Uggh.

And look what we did in the old bar area...
now our "command central" of sorts...
its also painted in the SW Shagreen color
although it looks different
at different times of the day
since there's a window of glass blocks in there.

I'm going to do a before and after shot one day of this
but look at this redo...
this used to have an empty frame in here that the builder did.
I always wonder what he was thinking when he left it empty...
well we added a chunkier frame and cork board
and viola!

and now for the entry hall...
the color is SW Topsail...
makes me wish I'd painted our bedroom blue
but I digress...

kind of looks like the same color as the dining room ceiling
 but its not...
the DR ceiling is SW Beach Glass.

I still have to move some furniture back in,
hang a mirror or two and pictures
(gotta figure them out first),

oh and paint my "shoe" sign a different color other than red
but I like how fresh it looks (that's the OCD in me)
I think it really pulls the blue from the office
and the blue ceiling in the dining room and makes it all flow.
Most importantly DH likes it so I love it.

oh, and the bedding dilemma CONTINUES...can you believe?
Holy toledo batman.
I think DH is going to kill me...
I bought the PB pickstitch quilt in white...
think I need to see if a third euro sham will fit.
Stay tuned.

somebody stop the madness please

by telling me which bedding looks best...
I've been through too many...
my DH wants a decision.
The problem is that when I think I've made a decision
he'll make a comment and it will make me second guess my choice.
Maybe that's just a girl thing?

So far I've returned the blue matine to PB
and the long white coverlet to Horchow...
I LOVED it but DH said it was too drapey
(man translation...too long, too girly, too much).
I wanted to keep it and had it not been dry clean only
I would have...even though DH didn't like it.
So I went and bought the hadley ruched duvet cover from PB.
Thankfully their store is five minutes away.
They recognize me when I walk in.
Just like on Cheers.
Where everybody knows your name.
Its that bad.

Here's the hadley...

note in the picture above the brown matine shams
and the picture below all pillows are white.

so the question is
1) do you like the ruched bedding
 and
2) what about the ruffled euro shams
(they're part of the horchow bedding
but I like the ruffles
and was thinking about returning only the long bedspread.

here's just a reminder of the other choices:

UPDATE!!!!
Now I want to cry and its really all very silly I know.
I returned the hadley duvet to PB
and DH was actually able to come with me since his mom is staying with us.
I was looking to buy a white quilt,
maybe the pickstitch but it felt rough.
Then he saw the silk Amelia quilt.
He reminded me how much he liked the blue matine toile
 that I already returned
(shipping paid both ways.
ouch.
since they dont carry it in store.
ouch, that shipping hurt!)
I kind of felt guilted into buying the blue amelia..
look at it here.

I want our bedroom to be a refuge from our little boys
but now I just want to cry whenever I go in there.
I want to be done with it but something is just not right.
I dont know if its just the bedding
or that and the lamps
and the dark painting above the frame.
Its all just so BROWN (which I love truly I do but ugghh).

another one bites the dust

ok, out with the hotel duvet from PB (the insert was always bunching and twisting, not good for someone with OCD), bye bye to the matine. this one is from the horchow sale...

do you think this will work? i know it needs to be ironed...this is right out of the box. I also bought ruffled euro hams but need to buy the inserts... wasn't sure about the old duvet cover on the end of the bed but left it in the shot.

and lastly I took apart an old cheap monet poster I've been lugging around for a decade or more and put the frame around this monogram...a la Holly Mathis.

how about this instead?

so if not this (with the new matine quilt and euro shams in porcelain blue) then how about switching out the painting (too much brown going on for me) to one in a gold frame

and then change the lamps (my husband is going to kill me)...

like the name of these...peacock blue...my dad's hometown in rural georgia has a peacock festival every year...who knew?

holly - remember when you suggested these and they were on backorder so i got the ones above from target? love the seagrass.

lighter blue gourd lamps...

chunckier (more manly?) lamps?

One thing I hate about myself is that I have a hard time making decisions (I am a Libra after all).

what I want

My boys are always asking for things. You know the drill. "I need this <insert the name of the latest toy>" or "I need that." Add a whiny voice and you get the picture. I try hard to tell them that I give them what they need not always what they want. I need to remember this myself.

I have a folder on my computer titled "ME." Just a little folder where I put links of things I want to buy but aren't necessarily in the budget at said time.

This doesnt cost much but never seems to make it to the top of the list. Just a little pretty to make scheduling and keeping up with committments a little easier to follow (just like everything tastes better with butter, I find it easier to keep up with pretty things).

I'm sure there are prettier but I like that its a spiral (easier for me to write in).

Now if only I could find an orange leather pocketbook.

one day...

I'd like to have a vegetable garden. I know, I know, who's got the time. But I think with the way the world is headed its probably a good idea. I'm not a survivalist but would like to be prepared. Put it on my to-do list:

gotta love google

I've had "paint the boys' table" on my to-do list for a long time now. Try two years. We got it at PBK (I know, I'm an addict) and after 5 years and three boys banging on it, well, let's just say it needs to be refreshed.

Our twins started playing chess about a year ago. Yes, I know, they're nerds but with DH and myself as their parents who can blame them. Anyhow I've had an idea of how I wanted to paint it and  today I finally remembered to google it. (Turns out I have "goggleheimers" - a definition I just read about the other day, of course I cant remember where, that says its when you want to google something but forget what it is by the time you get to the computer... happens to me all the freakin' time). The first time I got nothing good but then I added the phrase "blogspot" to my wording and sure enough...jackpot!

time to play

Here's a little tutorial.

Now to just figure out the colors I want to use.
