every day is a great day

That's a line my Dad says all the time.
This is how a typical phone call to him starts out.
"Hello?"
"Hi Dad, what's going on? How's your day?"
"Oh, Every day is a Great day."
Emphasis always on the "every" and "great."
And he means it.
I've never met a more positive person in that respect.
Another one is "every day God gives me is a great day."

I called him early this morning before 5.
I was hoping to catch them before they arrived at the hospital.
They are amputating his leg today.
He was already getting his lines put in.
He called me back shortly.
I just wanted to say "I love you" one last time.
Just in case.
You just never know.

He sounded so good.
I was a mess.
I managed to say it without crying.
Really loud so he could hear me.
But I just couldn't keep it together when I said "Bye Dad."
He said he'd have my mom call me when he gets in recovery.
Then in typical fashion he said
"Have a great day! Bye Bye"
in the most beautiful whispered southern drawl.

I found this pin that sums up my dad perfectly:
For my sweet Camryn, who has the best attitude of any person I've ever met! Always so grateful and thankful for everything and says every day is " the best day of my life!"

So even though this sucks big time
I'm going to try to think in honor of my Dad

and just pray he makes it through OK
and that we that love him
do our best to help him find his new normal.

**UPDATE**

My sister texted that my dad made it through surgery.
Praise God.
He is in recovery now and will stay the weekend in hospital.
It is indeed a great day!
Thanks for your prayers and sweet comments. :)
I appreciate it more than you know.
Blessings,
Nancy
