Sunshine Award

You may be thinking "what is a sunshine award?"
Apparently it is a person
"who positively and creatively inspires others in the blogosphere."
I'm not sure I do all that but hey
I rarely win anything so I'll take it :)

There are some rules...but first the fun stuff.
Christine asked myself and nine other bloggers
to answer the following questions:

1. Who is your biggest inspiration when it comes to decorating?

Our house burnt to the ground four days before my eighth birthday
and after that money was very tight...
my parents bought all old furniture to furnish our new house.
I guess that's why I like to up-cycle and DIY so much.
I can remember as a little girl
my dad finding furniture that people cast aside
so if you threw away some furniture on your curb
in the late seventies in Georgia I may know where it is.
Then he would pay this guy named Mr. Ginn to fix the stuff up.
I've definitely kicked it up a notch though since I found the blogosphere.
I get most of my decorating ideas from other bloggers.
Thank the Lord for pinterest...
I no longer hoard old magazines and clippings.
Now I just start a pinterest board and after a while
I can see a trend in what I like and
then I hunt for the best deal.
Did that answer the question?
I'm inspired by everybody :)

2. What clothing shop is your favorite?

For athletic gear Athleta is definitely my go-to.
I like the way their clothes fit a real woman's body
and the return policy is unbeatable.
Plus my friend Joyce just got a job there.
Makes me love the place even more :)
When I have to wear real clothes...
{not just running gear}
you could break down my closet by label majority...
for t-shirts and shorts its Lands End.
for dresses and dressier t-shirts I hit
 (but always on sale).
sweaters...Target

3. What is your "comfort food"?

Food in general comforts me.
ha!
But the number one thing I cannot say no to is chips and salsa.
Its my downfall.
The waiter at our regular Mexican restaurant rolls his eyes
when he sees me walk in the door.
I might have a reputation
for eating more chips
than any other woman alive.
Allegedly.

4.What is your most cherished possession?

Gosh, aside from my boys?
By my boys I mean my husband included?
Cherished would be an understatement when it comes to them.
Possession is the key word...
the thing I would grab in the event of a fire
are as many photographs as possible...
Like I said my house burnt when I was a little girl.
we have very few photos of us as little girls.
That still hurts.
Every other possession is replaceable.

5. Current Lipstick color?

I buy a couple of lip sets around the holidays
and they last me all year long.
For two years now I've bought a set by smashbox

Smashbox Lip Gloss Set

and one by Clinique...
their chubby sticks rock

CLINIQUE Chubby Stick Set Whole Lotta Colour
via

I usually pass along the colors
I cant wear to my girlfriends
and then just mix and match the others.
Line with the chubby sticks for color
then use the lip gloss on top.

Another lip product I am addicted to is this lip balm
by Burts Bees...their acai berry
{it has the purple cap}

Burt's Bees Lip Balm with Acai Berry

I have tubes of this everywhere.

6. If your luggage got lost on a week long trip,
what three things would you have to purchase.
in order to survive the week?

1. toothbrush and paste...I have a thing about clean teeth.

Ok.
I like to be clean in general :)
I know what you're thinking...
O.C.D.
Yep, that's how I roll. :)

3. Burt's Bees lip balm (see above)

7. Favorite tote bag to use?

I recently bought this purse from coach factory

Coach shoulder bag. Park Leather Hobo in Brass/British Tan

I love it...it holds everything I need
and then some...
think snacks, water bottles, Lego's.

8. Most recent "splurge" purchase?

see number 7 above :)

9. What charity is most dear to your heart?

I recently received an email
about a set of twins here in Houston.
One was recently diagnosed with Giant Axonal Neuropathy (GAN).
His twelve year old twin is competing
in a half iron man distance triathlon
on November 3, 2013
to raise money and awareness
in support of his brother and others with GAN.
He will be only the second 12 year old to compete in such a race.
I know.
How awesome is that?

All donations go directly to Hannah's Hope Fund,
the non-profit organization established to fight GAN
I would ask that you click through to read this story.
If you can support them please do
even if its just to like his facebook page
and get the word out about their story.

10. Best piece of advice from a lesson you have learned in life.

Listen.
Everybody goes through something.
None of us are unscathed.
But I think its all about perspective
and knowing that there's always somebody
who has it worse than you.
Count your blessings not your problems right?
I've been through things I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy
but I'm thankful for the lessons I've learned in the midst of life's storms
and wouldn't trade them or the hard times for any thing.
That's when you find out what you're made of
and who your real friends in life are.
I love quotes in general but since I can only pick one
I'll say this one by Mother Teresa.

Mother Teresa's wise words

I love this quote so much
that I framed it and hung it in the nursery
before we were even pregnant.
Its advice I'm still learning to follow.

Stay tuned tomorrow for part 2...
where I'll put forth my own nominees for the Sunshine Award.

Enjoy your Monday!
