I'm back...

My sister Julie noticed I haven't posted in a while.
Not that she ever comments ;)
But I called her yesterday for some tax advice
{she's a brilliant CPA}
and she said "hey, where've you been?"
"you haven't posted on your blog lately."
which for an older sister is like music to my ears.
Ha!
So hey Julie!
I'm back...

she also reminded me that I haven't given my update for this trip...

the decor detective

For those of you who don't know where Round Top is
it's about an hour and half drive outside Houston
in the middle of the most beautiful countryside...

always in a southern state of mind

I love a red barn or one with a rusted tin roof don't you?
Reminds me of rural Georgia where my Dad is from
💗

You can't miss the clouds that could foretell what we were in for...

video

note if the video doesn't work here it's us stuck in a tent
while deafening rain pounded down for like ever.

This was the first time since I've been going to RT that the weather was like this.
It was a pain but hey, it's Round Top.
You suck it up buttercup and you shop!
#that'showmytriberolls

We saw this boat before the rain came down.
Little did we know we'd need it later...

Lucite bench anyone?

always in a southern state of mind

To say you can find anything and everything is a vast understatement.
I'd been thinking recently of the old fencing once used around my Grannie's yard.
Guess what?
I found some...

 Retweet:

always in a southern state of mind

Ok...this is a little creepy but it reminds me of Chief,
the cutest dog ever that belongs to
Mary Ann of classic casual home
but without the buggy eyes...

always in a southern state of mind

Of course when I went to get a better picture
I noticed the fish at the bottom of the birdbath...

always in a southern state of mind

that remind me of the fish downspouts in Savannah.

This next tent is where I spent the bulk of my money...

Seriously the best stuff.
Followed very closely by my friend who brings these every year...

always in a southern state of mind

I should have bought more but at the time
I was still reeling from what I spent on faux orchids. Ouch.
I know where he is so next time it is ON like donkey kong.

always in a southern state of mind

Because of the rain we decided against some of our regular haunts.
Instead we hopped in the car and made our way back towards Houston,
flying past my favorite little historic chapel...

always in a southern state of mind

{reminds me of the little clapboard church I got married in.}

We stopped in Round Top proper to go see my peep Holly Mathis
at her pop up shop situated right next door to Royers Pie Haven.
Turns out Holly was in the fields with a client
so of course we just had to wander over
and console ourselves with some pie.
I'm sad to say we also missed seeing the owner Tara
whom I've heard about forever and always wanted to meet.
I mean seriously this is inside her store...

 I know right?
I want to be like Tara...she's my tribe.

We soaked up the inspiration and wolfed down our pie
but sadly had to get on the road again
because most tents close around 5 or 6.
and headed to The Arbors...

This gentleman is from Atlanta...I have his card, just have to find it.
Email me if you're interested to remind me
because I think he ships nationwide...

This is for my peep Rena who loves geodes...

Get ready...
this is my favorite at The Arbors

I know!
I want one {or more} of everything.

Remember this guy's name...Scott Kerr.
My friend Paola and I went gaga over his pieces...

always in a southern state of mind

This has Sherry Hart written all over it.
Does it not?
Here's his website because I know you want to see more.

After The Arbors we headed to Blue Hills
where you can always find inspiration...

I'm such a sucker for trestle tables
even though I don't even need one...

always in a southern state of mind

and of course anything green and chippy speaks to me...

always in a southern state of mind

especially when its a bar.
Holla!

I also got to see my friend Carol from red egg in her tent at Blue Hills.
She's such a doll.
You might remember when I bought my office chair from her.
If you subcribe to Elle Decor one of her beautiful pieces
is featured in this month's issue...

always in a southern state of mind

Sadly the light wasn't cooperating and all my pictures
from her booth turned out horribly
but she sent me these to share with a client
so I'm hoping its ok to share here.
Most of her stuff was sold out already.
If you love chinoiserie with a twist red egg is amazing.

As is our tradition we left Blue Hills and headed to Leftovers Antiques
for our biannual "party on the porch"
I only took this one picture...

always in a southern state of mind

Again with the "savannah" fish...
because I'm not really sure if its ok to have a
wine and cheese party on their porch.
??
But based on the fact that Carolyn at Leftovers poured this for me
as soon as we walked in the door
I think its safe to say that they're ok with it.
I told Carolyn I'm coming inside to get her
before we start the party. ;)

Which probably explains why on earth the only picture in my roll is this one...

always in a southern state of mind

Not once.

always in a southern state of mind

Not twice.

always in a southern state of mind

Not even three times.
No.
Make it four...

always in a southern state of mind

to match the pour.
Ha!
And no, I wasn't driving home.
LaVerne was my designated driver.

That's a wrap.
Spring 2017 in Round Top.
I can't wait until fall y'all.
In the meantime I'll be back shortly
to tell you all about my trip last week to Austin.

  4. I just googled how long it would take for me to drive to Round Top: 20 hours, 11 minutes. I'm definitely going to have to visit. Is the flea market all the time or just certain times of year? (and did you see Emily Henderson when you were there?!)

    1. ha! come on! there are some shops in the area around there that are open year round. round top is twice a year usually late march and sept/oct sometime. i did not see emily or joanna but they were there at a place called marburger (think "higher end" and not a deal in sight). i prefer to go find the deals. ha! but marburger would be great place to go look at eye candy and get inspiration but just know its $20 for parking and ten bucks per person to get in to shop. everywhere else is free admission with maybe maybe $5 to park. i dont pay to shop anywhere. :)

  5. Fun! I was in Round Top on Monday and Tuesday. We had perfect weather, but I've certainly been there when the rains came. Didn't stop us though! You were in Austin? Can't wait to read about your visit. Do you come to Austin often?
